One legend says that the garden was built by the Pandava brothers during their exile in the Mahabharata epic. They also renamed the garden as Yadavindra Gardens, after the last ruler of Patiala. The next terrace is known for its beautiful surroundings since it contains a fountain bed along with a platform where we can relax and admire the view. The third terrace is outlined with Cypress trees and flower beds which eventually lead to dense groves and fruit trees. The second terrace is decorated with colorful arched doorways, therefore earning itself the Yadavindra Gardens name of Rang Mahal. Made during the reign of Aurangzeb and refurbished during the era of Emperor Yadavindra Singh, the Gardens earned themselves the name of Yadavindra Gardens to honor the legacy of the ruler.

It was later restored and renovated by the rulers of the Patiala Dynasty, who acquired the garden in the 19th century. However, after the decline of the Mughal Empire, the garden was neglected and damaged by the invaders and the elements. Yadvinder Garden was originally built by Fidai Khan, a general of Aurangzeb, the sixth Mughal emperor, in the 17th century.

During the festival, the garden is decorated and illuminated with lights. The fourth level is known for housing the palace of waters or Jal Mahal. The palace is called the Shish Mahal and has been built using mirrors. The garden is not just blessed with a vast expanse of flora but also houses within itself a Japanese-style garden, a splendid nursery, and spectacular picnic spots.

Also, be mindful of the other visitors, and do not disturb or annoy them. However, it is advisable to carry your own water bottle, snacks, sunscreen, hat, etc., as the garden can get hot and dry during the day. Avoid visiting the garden during the summer months (April to June), when the temperature can rise up to 45°C, and the garden can get crowded and noisy. This terrace is also known as the Top Terrace, as it offers a bird’s eye view of the entire garden and the town of Pinjore. The terrace also has a Japanese garden, with a pond, a bridge, a pagoda, and a Buddha statue. The terrace also has a cactus garden, with over 2500 species of cacti and succulents.

Yadavindra Gardens which was previously known as Pinjore Garden is a 17th century garden situated in Pinjore in district Panchkula in Chandigarh Tricity. The garden has a heritage hotel, called the Rajhans Hotel, which is located in the Rang Mahal terrace.
